A new engine. The boat you know.

An outboard repower replaces your existing engine with a suitable new outboard. It lets you keep a hull that works for you while reviewing the power, controls and setup around it.

It may be worth considering when repairs are becoming frequent, reliability is affecting your boating, or your current engine no longer suits the way you use your boat.

The right choice depends on your existing engine, the condition of the boat and your budget. We’ll help you weigh up a repower against further repairs, then recommend a setup that fits.

Your hull, engine choice and existing rigging all help determine the right repower package.

What goes into your outboard repower quote?

A repower price depends on more than the engine. Your quote needs to account for the boat, what can be reused and what needs to be replaced. We confirm the inclusions and any additional work before you approve the job.

Outboard repower FAQs

How much does an outboard repower cost?

The cost depends on your chosen engine, the boat and the installation work required. Controls, steering, gauges, propeller, batteries and fuel or electrical work can affect the fitted price. View current outboard deals for a starting point, then request a quote for your boat.

Can I repower my boat with a Mercury or Suzuki outboard?

We need to check your hull’s rating, transom, suitable engine weight and shaft length, as well as the existing controls and rigging. Send us your boat and current engine details so we can discuss suitable Mercury or Suzuki options.

Can my existing controls and steering be reused?

Sometimes, depending on their condition and compatibility with the new engine. We’ll assess what can be retained and identify any required replacements in your quote.

Should I repower or repair my current outboard?

That depends on the engine’s condition, the proposed repair cost, your boat and your longer-term plans. Tell us what is happening with the current engine so we can help you compare the options before you commit.

How long does an outboard repower take?

Timing depends on engine availability, the installation work and workshop scheduling. We’ll discuss the proposed timing when confirming your quote and booking.

Can you service my new outboard after installation?

Yes. Auckland Marine Service Centre provides Mercury and Suzuki outboard servicing to the manufacturer’s recommended schedule. We can explain the servicing requirements during handover.
